Springtime means…

Forget the images of spring that you in the “south” have.

There are no buds on our trees.

There are no bulbs poking up in our gardens.

There are no eggs in the nests, heck, there are few birds yet.  (I did hear some today!)

Here, spring looks this:

The snow is smooshy enough to make snowmen.  From December through February, except for a fluke day, the snow is way too fluffy and dry to form into anything fun.  A student gave me this today at recess.  Forget dandelion bouquets – those can wait until summer.  I heart my snowman.

On the roads, the snow plows have been replaced by dump trucks, flood prep is underway. Dump trucks are everywhere.  So are earthen levies.  And sand bags.  THIS is spring.

Most importantly, a sure sign of spring is the return of Lake Pieper

Makes me want to get the boat out.

People, get your capris ready – flip flop season is just around the corner.  Then, like in June, we can pick the dandelions, dig in the dirt, and take a walk without puddle boots!  Those are summer things. Smile  I love spring.

Love, love, love this one!!!! I feel your pain on Lake Pieper, just waiting to see what Lake Johnson/3rd street looks like this year. Might have to paint my toe nails tonight if I have the ambition to. 🙂
