To my Valentine

Here I sit

All broken hearted

(side note:  all good poems begin with this line.)

Because you split,

Your plane departed.

A sandy beach

Basking in sun

A drink within reach.

You’ve left me now,

Jetting out west.

At a computer geek conference,

Where you’re the best of the best.

You’ll spend Valentines Day

With some strange man.

I will be spending it

Inside our van.

Taxiing Boy Scouts

And piano lessons.

Enjoying our children,

Counting our blessins’

This lovers’ holiday

Will be spent disjointed

Please know, however

That I am not disappointed.

Because we never “do”

This mushy holiday

We find it stupid,

This game we don’t play.

Just enjoy co-rooming

With the Korean

It wont be long

Before you I’m seein’.

When you return

Home at last,

Know how I rocked it

In the time that has passed.

When I tell you

A nap I’ll be taking,

Know single parent burn-out

I wont be faking.

But I still get the

Better end of the deal

Sleeping in my own bed

Sure has it’s appeal.

I’ll miss you, no doubt

Parenting is for two.

When you are out

I note all that you do.

Safe travels, to you

My very best friend.

I’ll hold down the fort

Till you’re home again.

My goal this week?

To lose the five pounds

While you peruse

Puget Sounds.

I am 100% sure

That you need to too.

Remember that when

The hotel fitness center calls to you!!

Mama's Losin' It

Absolutely one of the cutest, funniest valentine poems I’ve ever read. 🙂
