One of “those” Saturdays

A Family on a Mission

We left the kids home alone for the evening yesterday and they sealed their fates.  Today, it has been a cleaning boot camp, no one protected, no one off the hook.  Pull your hair back, ladies.  Stretch your muscles, men.  This is not going to be a wimpy kind of day.  You, who have built forts all over the house, eaten candy by the bulk and “hid” wrappers all over, left dirty socks all over my house, didn’t wash a dish, ate all my mini-chocolate chips, decorated the bathroom floor with life savers,  and broke numerous things – too many to list – have been summoned for a day of Mom and Dad Slavery.  Some day, you will learn.  Someday!

This is what we found under the basement couches this morning…we found the same behind them and also behind the piano.  Pigs.

The house is out of control.  I guess that is what happens when you ramp up crazy before Christmas and then leave for 10 days.  When you come home and dump all your stuff only to start the work week and back at the crazy schedule, you can expect a mess come the weekend.  Today, I am on a rampage.  I am sick of it all.  If I don’t love it, it is getting tossed or stuck in the give-away pile.  I am not being kind at all, I am ruthless.  If I cant keep it all under control, I have too much, and I have lost control.  Nothing is safe.

DeChristmafying our Home

Goodbye, lights that warmed the home in the evenings with your glow.  Goodbye, cheer and sparkle.  Goodbye, see you next Friday after Thanksgiving.  Trees are down, decorations down.  No more HO HO HO.  It is the season of NO NO NO more mess.

Hello, clean nothing.  I do love the simple feeling I get when it all comes back down.  I am not just shoving everything in containers this year.  Not in the mood I am in.  I am cleaning each container and getting rid of stuff I didn’t use and don’t see using next year.  If it is iffy, I have an entire container marked “miscellaneous” so I know in future years that is was crap I didn’t use in 2010.   We hauled out 3 bags of garbage and 3 bags of give-away from the basement family room alone.  I am merciless.

On a good note, we got rid of the piece of broken luggage. 20101213_210036_6329

On a sad note, the hand I have been using to Murphy Oil Soap the basement is all swollen, cracked, red, and tight.  Could I be allergic to cleaning?  Time to get rubber gloves.

I did the same with our Christmas containers… went through them all. One became “garage sale stuff”, another became “old stuff I wanna keep but don’t use every year”, and the remaining one “annual stuff”. 🙂

Glad to see that at least once in awhile your house gets to the condition that mine is in most of the time 🙂
