A Small Town Parade

Today was WestFest, West Fargo’s annual town celebration.  We took a break between cleaning like banshees and errand running and ventured off for a glorious fall afternoon, bundled in sweatshirts and jeans, ready for a heartwarming glimpse of the heart of this community.   We didn’t go alone.  Our family has been blessed to get to know the Rossow family this summer.  I work with Jeremy and Jen at school and know them as co-workers and getting to know them deeper has added great new and sincere friendship to our lives.  Jens got my back, she is a keeper.  Smile

Standing up as the American flag is paraded down Main Street America is a beautiful moment; celebrating all that makes our country great should happen more often.  I get goose bumps in that moment.  Really, I do.  Even at July parades when it is 90 degrees, not just fall parades when it is 55.

Both the guys in our families are quite political, so at one point, we had to sit a few feet away and pretend we didn’t know the dads as a particular political candidate’s crew walked by.   They were funny, not disrespectful, and we agreed with what they said.  Still, we pretended we were with the people next to us. Pictures are worth 1000 words.

Bill did get to shake Governor (soon to be Senator) Hoeven’s hand.  That ranks up there with all the highlights of Bill’s life thus far:  winning the coffee gift certificate at the IT Christmas party in ‘07, oh, that is all I can think of.  All kidding aside, it was a honor for Bill, we are big Hoeven fans.

No parade is complete without fire trucks screaming down the street and kids lined up for candy.

And big tractors

And giant grocery carts

And police who told our kids to back up 100000000000 times

and lots of candy…

Here are a few cute pics of the kiddos today:
